Retired Manila cops support Razon’s bid

Members of the Manila’s Finest Retirees Association led by its president, Col. (ret.) Felicisimo Lazaro, as well as its board of directors, formally decided during the organization’s assembly last week in Malate to support the candidacy of former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and Manila mayoral bet Sonny Razon.

The organization’s members, who are retired Manila police officers, decided to endorse Razon after he bared his plan, if elected, to help the retirees and their families by granting them the gratuity due to them as well as institute a program that would provide pensions, livelihood opportunities and social services.

“Utang ko kung ano ako ngayon sa Manila police (What I am now I owe to the Manila police),” Razon acknowledged.

Razon served two tours as district director of the Manila Police District, previously called the Western Police District, from 1996 to 1998, and from 1999 to 2001. During his two stints as district director, Razon instituted best practices such as heightened police visibility.

His service as MPD chief earned him an appointment to other positions, among them head of the National Capital Region Police Office and eventually as director general of the 120,000-strong PNP.

Lazaro said that Razon commanded the respect of the officers and men of the city’s police force when he headed it because he led by example and was a firm but fair commanding officer.
